For the first time in the 2000-year history of Christianity, we analyzed 30 parables of Jesus from a cognitive linguistic perspective. When Jesus compares the Word to a seed, his disciples ask why he speaks in parables. Jesus replies that he who has ears to hear will understand, and grace will abound more. He knew that the metaphor performed the creative function of changing or expanding meaning by opening a new realm of understanding and experience of one kind of object from the perspective of another.
