이 책 〈ENERTOPIA〉는 2014년 첫 출간되었던 〈어느 할아버지의 에너토피아 이야기〉의 영어판이다. 에너토피아는 저자가 에너지 걱정 없는 세상을 꿈꾸며 ‘에너지’와 ‘유토피아’를 결합해 만든 단어로 에너지 자급률이 50%가 넘는 나라, 에너지 사용에 불편이 없는 사회, 에너지 자원이 풍부할 뿐만 아니라 에너지 효율이 높고 에너지 운용 기술이 뛰어난 나라를 말한다.
〈ENERTOPIA〉에는 저자가 한국전력공사 CEO로 일하면서 한국 사회에 ‘에너토피아’를 구현하기 위해 애쓴 흔적이 녹아 있다. 원자력 발전 기술 자립과 인재 양성, 공기업 혁신 등 저자가 전문 경영인으로 어떻게 한전을 일구어 나갔는지, 한국 육상계에 어떠한 영향을 미쳤는지 등 단순한 자전적 에세이에서는 볼 수 없는 진정한 리더십의 모습 또한 배울 수 있을 것이다.

육군사관학교 출신으로 한국중공업(현 두산중공업) 사장, 한국전력공사 사장, 한덕생명(주) 회장, 대한육상경기연맹 회장, 국제육상연맹(IAAF) 집행이사, 2011년 대구세계육상선수권대회 명예조직위원장 등을 역임하였다. 저서로 30여 만부가 판매된 『어느 할아버지의 평범한 이야기』(1989)를 비롯, 『어느 할아버지의 평범한 정치론』(1993), 『어느 할아버지의 평범한 문명이야기』(1995), 『지도자』(1996), 『남북전쟁』(2002), 『육상경기, 그 영웅들의 이야기』(2010), 『에너토피아』 (2014), 『Wake Up Korea! 어느 할아버지의 평범한 이야기 2』 (2021) 등 10여 권이 있다. 현재 사단법인 한미친선군민협의회 회장으로 활동하고 있다.
