은 육당 최남선의 장손 최학주가 육당의 생애와 인간상, 그리고 우리나라의 근대화에 기여한 바를 기술한 책이다. 저자는 육당에 대한 기존의 평가를 뛰어넘어, 앞으로 학계에서 연구되어야 할 부분들에 대해 새로운 해석을 선보이고 있다.



저자는 후대들이 역사적 인물로서의 육당 최남선과 그의 시대에 대해 사실 그대로 명료하게 인식함으로써 자신과 나라의 미래를 설계하고 준비하는 데 도움이 되길 바라는 마음을 이 책에 담았다.

As the very first memoir/biography to be written by a member of Ch'oe Nam-son's immediate family, this book contains detailed information that provides fresh insight into the life and work of Yuktang. The author offers new interpretations of Yuktang's work, which diverge significantly from existing evaluations, paving the way for new areas of scholarly inquiry.



The goal of this record is that future generations of Koreans, through an accurate understating of Yuktang and his historical milieu, might better understand themselves and, equipped with this understanding, draw the best possible roadmap for their country's future.

그간 육당에 대한 연구는 최남선이라는 인물 개인의 근대화 운동에만 주목되었으나 이 책에서는 최남선 선대부터 개화운동에 참여해 근대화 운동으로 이어지는 과정을 상세히 기술한다. 또한 기존에 알려져 있던 육당의 업적들에 대한 새로운 해석과 논증을 내놓으며 그와 그의 시대에 관한 인식을 바로잡길 원한다. 이 책에서 등장한 새로운 시각에서 바라본 그에 대한 평가가 학계에서 인정 받는다면 근대사에서 최남선의 위치는 완전히 달라지게 될 것이다.
