Andri Pol(영문판)(열화당 사진문고)

안드리 폴은 스위스 사진계에서 오랫동안 활동하며 잡지 편집자, 사진가, 저널리스트의 역할을 모두 해내고 있는 몇 안 되는 인물이다. 스위스를 배경으로 한 사진에서부터 유명인들의 초상사진까지 폭넓은 주제와 더불어, 특유의 유머와 역설이 담긴 이미지들을 발표해 왔다. 작품을 선별하는 과정에서부터 작가론 집필, 사진 설명과 연보 작성까지 작가가 직접 참여했고, 국문판과 동시 출간했다.



Andri Pol, born in 1961 in Bern, has spent the last few decades focussing closely on Switzerland and the Swiss identity on the one hand, and simultaneously marvelling at the entire world and its inhabitants on the other. What drives him and has led to his success are his openness towards the world in general and his inexhaustible curiosity. Pol’s work visually reflects contemporary culture at the levels of cultural, social, and political identity and, in the Swiss case, also definitions of nationhood. The way that his images are constructed is such that societal norms and cultural codes are concurrently explored and imploded in his photography. His obscene contrasts and combinations of imagery address the stark contrasts and huge contradictions that we are faced with by living in a world dominated by consumerism and the free market.
