Rhino 3D 5 제품디자인 모델링(2018)

Rhino는 디자이너들이 사용하기 쉬운 직관적인 인터페이스와 다양하고 편리한 방법으로 형태를 표현할 수 있는 서피스 모델러(Surface Modeler)로서, 제품 디자인(Product Design), 주얼리 디자인(Jewelry Design), 건축(Architecture) 등의 다양한 분야에서 디자인 아이디어를 3D 형상으로 표현하기 위해 많이 사용하고 있습니다.

3D 디자인 형상을 표현하고자 하는 학생들과 실무디자이너들을 대상으로 Rhino 프로그램을 활용한 제품디자인 및 제품디자인 3D 모델링을 오랫동안 강의하면서, 어떻게 하면 빠르고 쉽게 3D 디자인 모델링을 가르칠 수 있을까를 고민해 왔습니다. 결론은 두 가지의 학습과정이 필요합니다.

하나는, 디자인 분야 별로 자주 사용하는 명령어들에 대한 자세한 사용법과 여기에 적합한 예제를 통해 개별 명령어를 숙지하고 자신 있게 사용할 수 있어야 합니다.

또 하나는, 디자인 분야 별로 잘 계획된 예제 모델링을 통해, 디자인 개발 프로세스의 3D 모델링 단계에서 디자인을 위한 Rhino의 활용방법을 알아야 합니다.

한 권의 책으로 이 두 가지 학습과정을 해결하기 위해, 전반부에서는 제품디자인 모델링에서 자주 사용하는 Rhino의 핵심적인 명령어를 세심하게 선별하고 선정한 명령어에 대한 자세한 기능과 옵션의 사용방법을 설명하였습니다.

후반부에서는 다양한 제품 중에서 7개의 예제를 선정하여 디자인 개발 프로세스에서 Rhino의 활용방법과 실무 디자인 모델링을 배울 수 있도록 하였습니다.



이 책은 총 15부로 구성하였습니다. 제1부~제8부에서는 Rhino의 인터페이스와 핵심적인 명령어의 사용방법을 설명하였습니다.

초보자들을 위해 Rhino의 핵심적인 명령어 및 모델링 보조도구들을 사용하는 방법을 자세히 설명하였고, 각 명령어에 대한 내용을 실습을 통해 바로 체험해 볼 수 있도록 적합한 예제 파일을 부록 CD에 담았습니다.

제9부~제12부에서는 우리 주변에서 많이 사용하고 있는 생활용품 중에서 물통, 미니선풍기, 계산기, 사인 패드 제품을 디자인 모델링 예제로 선정하여 실무디자이너들이 모델링과정에서 핵심적인 명령어들을 어떻게 적용하여 디자인 하는지를 참고 화면과 함께 자세하게 설명하였습니다.

이 과정을 통해 디자인 아이디어를 3D 형태로 디자인하는 방법과 핵심명령어의 활용방법을 배울 수 있도록 하였습니다.

제13부~제15부에서는 베이비 샴푸 용기, 마우스, 카메라와 같은 복잡한 곡면의 3D 모델링을 통해 제품디자인 개발 실무에 필요한 3D 디자인 모델링 능력을 키울 수 있도록 하였습니다.

특히, 난이도가 있는 고급 예제의 모델링 과정을 학습하는데 도움을 주기 위해 모델링 단계를 A, B, C, D, E… 등의 여러 단계로 구분하여 예제파일을 수록하였습니다.

예제 모델링을 처음부터 끝까지 따라하지 못하는 경우가 생기더라도, 다음 단계의 예제 파일을 열어서 끝가지 학습을 진행해볼 수 있도록 하였습니다.

3D 디자인 모델링에서는 한 단계에서 이해하지 못한 부분을 다른 단계를 진행하면서 알게 되는 경우도 많기 때문입니다.



3D 디자인 모델링 표현에서 가장 중요한 것 중의 하나는 최종 형태에 얽매이지 말고 어떤 중간 단계를 거쳐서 최종적으로 원하는 디자인 형태를 표현할 수 있는 가를 파악하는 감각을 익히는 것입니다.

이런 3D 디자인 감각을 기르기 위해서는, 이 책에 수록한 7개의 제품 모델링 예제들을 책을 보지 않고도 진행할 수 있을 정도로 반복해서 연습할 것을 권합니다. 이렇게 하고 나면 여러분들은 3D 디자인 모델링에 필요한 구조적인 골격과 감각을 형성하게 될 것입니다.

즉, 어떤 제품이나 아이디어 스케치를 보면 어떤 과정과 방법으로 원하는 디자인을 표현할 수 있겠다는 생각을 할 수 있게 될 것입니다.

예제 한 개를 완성하기 위해 수 십 번 모델링을 반복하면서 어떤 방법과 순서로 모델링을 진행해야 독자들에게 가장 쉽게 필요한 모델링 방법들을 전달할 수 있을지를 고민하면서 오랜 시간과 정성을 쏟았지만, 그래도 미처 손길이 미치지 못한 부분은 독자들의 양해를 구하며, 이 책을 통해 3D 디자인 모델링의 기초를 다질 수 있기를 기원합니다.
