During the last decade, the global society observed fundamental changes in the human conditions that influenced the way in which individuals, organizations, and the nation-states reformulated the mode of development by deconstructing the traditional boundaries of learning and production. Challenged by the postmodern/postindustrial/postcolonial changes, the members of ASEM Lifelong Learning University Hub agreed on the necessity to re-think the nature of learning and competence.
It goes beyond the conventional attitudes on the concept of lifelong learning, learning systems, and human competences. ‘Learning society’ has been discussed as a fundamental new platform upon which learning becomes an essential component to produce new social orders in that the appropriate competences towards successful life are discussed as a key factor. Now, human learning and competence became the key attribute of a social system.
This book intended to encourage the discussion about the nature of human competences from a perspective of learning society as a new platform of social evolution. We believed that new core competences that require individual learner the analytic, dialogic, cultural, and global as well as multicultural capacity will be analyzed in the context of a learning society with diverse approaches and efforts in a con-jointed context of Asia-Europe joint research connections.
