서울-부산 철로를 달리는 고속열차처럼, 한국 경제는 과학기술정책을 지렛대 삼아 경제 발전에 주력해왔다. 1990년대 초까지만 해도 미진했던 고속열차 철도시스템 개발 계획은 결국 프랑스 TGV 디자인을 기초로 한국의 요구를 충족하여 국내 디자인과 기술을 바탕으로 한 한국 고속열차 KTX로 탄생했다. 이처럼 과학기술 발전을 위한 국내 연구개발(R&D) 활동과 글로벌 파트너십과의 협력패턴은 국가의 필요와 의무를 충족시켜 왔다. 이 책은 선진국과 개발도상국 등 국제 파트너들을 한국과 연결하는 녹색기술의 필요성 및 잠재적인 위협들, 직면한 기회들을 검토한다, 또한, 고속열차에서 한층 더 나아가 선진국들과 어깨를 나란히 하며 하늘을 날기 위한 한국의 글로벌 과학기술 전략들을 담아내고 있다.

Like the high-speed train that travels down the corridor between Seoul and Busan, Korea's economy has managed to supercharge its economic development by leveraging its science and technology policies, or S&T policy. While construction did not begin until the early 1990s, plans for the development of the train system began in the 1970s with proposals from France and Japan. Originally based on French TGV designs, the Korean high-speed train, the KTX, eventually developed its own domestic designs and technology to meet the demands of the Korean countryside. This pattern of cooperation with global partnership to develop the science and technology through domestic research and development activities, known as R&D, continues to meet our country's needs and obligations. Herein this volume will examine the needs of green technology, bridging Korea with international counterparts in the developed and developing worlds, and potential threats and opportunities faced.
