Model UN: Unexpected Journey는 모의유엔을 처음 접하는 학생이 다양한 모의유엔 활동을 알고 그에 해당하는 규칙을 차근차근 배울 수 있도록 기술되었다. 저자가 직접 2012~2015년까지 4년간 20개가 넘는 한국의 고등학교 모의유엔 대회를 돌아다니며 느끼고 배운 것을 바탕으로, 수상을 위해 실제 회의장에서 적용할 수 있는 실용적인 팁과 함께 의장단과 사무국으로서 모의유엔을 어떻게 준비할지, 그리고 모의유엔에 관심이 있는 학생이 할 수 있는 활동은 무엇이 있는지 등을 총망라했다. 이 책은 모의유엔을 처음 하는 학생이 읽는다는 전제로 쓰여 저자가 경험한 내용을 바탕으로 모의유엔 대회를 난이도 별로 소개했으며, 모의유엔을 몇 년씩 한 사람들의 경험담도 포함했다. 모의유엔을 시작하기 전에 이 책을 읽으면 모의유엔이 정확히 무슨 활동이고 어떻게 활용할 수 있는지 알 수 있을 것이다.



Model UN: Unexpected Journey is written for students first encountering Model UN to be able to know how it works and learn the rules step by step. This book is based on the experience of the author who has participated in over 20 Model UN conferences for the past 4 years from 2012~15. The book provides its readers with useful information to utilize to win awards, to run a conference as a chair or as a secretariat, and to conduct activities which students interested in Model UN can participate in additionally. It also explores various conferences' difficulties and includes stories of experienced Model UNers for the benefit of rookie delegates. By reading this book before beginning your Model UN career, you would know what Model UN is and learn how to utilize it fully.

Epilogue

이상엽 저자 이상엽(John Sang-Yup Lee)은 2012년부터 2015년까지 4년간 20개가 넘는 모의유엔 회의에 참여하며 한국의 고등학교 모의유엔에 깊이 관여했다. 청소년 기자로서 청소년 활동을 취재하다 모의유엔을 처음 알게 된 후, 이후 다양한 모의유엔 대회에 스텝, 대사, 의장, 그리고 사무국으로 참가했다. 대사로서 여러 대회에 출전하며 그는 2014년 뉴욕에서 열린 Global Classroom: International 모의유엔 회의에 한국 대표팀 멤버로 참가하기도 했으며, 2015년 서울에서 열린 하버드 세계 대학생 모의유엔 대회에 의장단으로 활동했다. 사무국에 소속돼서는 여러 대회에서 일하며 수도권과 지방에서 모의유엔 대회를 개최했다. 한국에 있는 여러 모의유엔 조직에서 일하기도 했다. 신생 모의유엔 대회를 도울 목적으로 설립된 GTRO란 비영리 단체를 2013년에 공동으로 설립했고, 1400명이 넘는 회원이 등록된 한국의 가장 큰 온라인 모의유엔 포럼에서 부대표로 활동하기도 했다. 최근에는 '한국의 모의유엔에 대한 조사: 그 역사와 발달에 관하여'란 논문을 런던에서 열린 2015년 국제교육학술대회에서 발표했다.



John (Sang-Yup) has participated in over 20 Model UN conferences for the past 4 years and was deeply involved in Korea's high school Model UN society. Starting as a press member, he attended various conferences as a staff, delegate, student officer, and a secretariat. As a delegate, among the many conferences he had participated in, he notably attended the 2014 Global Classrooms International Model UN conference held in New York as a member of Korea's representative team. He also worked as an Assistant Chair in Harvard World MUN: Seoul and organized several urban and rural conferences in Korea as a secretariat. He also worked in different Model UN organizations in Korea. In 2013 he co-founded a non-profit company called GTRO to sponsor new found Model UN conferences and worked as a vice president in Korea's largest online Model UN forum with over 1,400 members. Recently he has published a paper titled 'Exploring Model UN in Korea: Its History and Developments' in 2015 London International Conference on Education (LICE).
