Held teaching and faculty positions at University of Chicago, University of Michigan, Seoul National University, Kyoto University and University of Hawaii. Served as Director of East-West Population Institute (EWPI) and President of the East-West Center, Hawaii, US. Currently, Chairman of the Northeast Asia Economic Forum (NEAEF) since establishment in 1991. Authored and edited numerous publications in population and economic development.
