이 책은 공식과 비공식을 통합하고, 국경사회를 이해하는 시각을 제시하며 이주민이 살아가는 생활세계를 살펴 본다. 이주민 집결지가 취약한 이주민들에게 안정적으로 살아갈 수 있는 자리를 제공하고 있고, 밀수가 오랜 전통 으로 현지의 관점에서는 일상의 경제활동이며, 이주민 학교와 병원은 이주민과 태국인, 외국인의 협력 속에서 정 당한 기관으로 성장하고 있음을 밝힌다.
