최근 영어교육의 중심은 학습자의 영어 의사소통 능력의 신장이다. 영어발음은 영어 듣기 및 말하기 능력 향상에 있어서 가장 중요한 기본 능력 중 하나이다. 정확하고 원활한 영어발음은 발화시 자신감은 물론 유창성 향상을 도모하며 더 나아가 궁극적인 목표인 의사소통 능력 신장 많은 도움을 줄 수 있다. 따라서 많은 학습자들이 영어발음 교정과 유창성 향상에 많은 관심을 가지고 있고 제대로 학습하기를 원하고 있다. 현재 대부분의 영어발음 관련 수업은 거의 대부분 원어민 교수자에게 의존되어 있다. 그러나 원어민 교수자라고해서 모두 다 표준 영어발음을 구사하는 하는 것은 아니며, 학습자들의 수요에 비하여 수준 높은 원어민 교수자가 절대적으로 부족한 실정이다. 이를 위해 이 책은 영어교육 전문가와 이중언어 구사자가 다년간 수업과 학생 지도를 통하여 터득한 경험을 바탕으로 실제적으로 원활한 학습자의 발음과 영어 의사소통 능력의 신장을 위한 것이다.

이 책은 다음과 같은 내용으로 구성되어 있다. 정확한 영어 발음과 더 나아가 의사소통 능력의 신장은 진정한 환경에서 지속적인 개별 연습은 물론 학습맥락에 맞게 콘텐츠-학습자, 교사-학습자 그리고 학습자-학습자 간의 다양하고 원활한 상호작용이 필요하다. 이 책과 함께 다양한 첨단 멀티미디어 교수·학습 자료 및 도구, 동영상, mp3 등을 포함한 멀티미디어 콘텐츠는 학습자들에게 정확하고 유창한 영어발음 그리고 원활한 의사소통 능력에 신장을 위한 것이다. 구체적으로 이 책과 콘텐츠에서는 교수 및 학습 방법론적으로 첫째, 조음음성학과 청각음성학의 제 이론과 실제를 포함한 영어 발음의 원리와 규칙의 이해 및 학습, 둘째, 다양하고 풍부한 진정성 있는 학습 자료 제공. 셋째, 다양한 상호작용을 통한 개별, 짝 및 그룹 활동, 마지막으로 개별 및 동료 발음 평가 등을 포함하고자 한다. 이 책에서 제시한 대로 꾸준히 학습한다면 생각보다 빠른 시간에 정확하고 유창한 발음을 구사할 수 있으며 의사소통 능력의 신장에도 자신감을 갖게 될 것이다.

윤서영 저자 Seo Young Yoon has graduated from Emory University, USA with a B.A. in English and continued her pursuit of academia with MA in TEFL/ICS in Columbia International University, USA. She received a Ph.D. in TESOL at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies. She is a lecturer in the department of English education at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies and serves as an editor for Korea Association of Multimedia Assisted Language Learning (KAMALL). Her research areas include multimedia assisted language learning (MALL) for English spoken skills, blended learning, and e-learning. She published books and papers in a variety of ELT subjects such as "Road to Debate: Introduction," "A study on voice recordings and feedback through BBS in teaching and learning pronunciation," "The perspectives and effectiveness of blended learning in L2 writing of Korean university students," "A study on Korean test-takers' Perceptions of Test Fairness in iBT TOEFL," etc.
