Elan Vital이란 '생명의 도약'이라는 프랑스말로 베르그송이 사용한 철학적 용어이다. 이 책은 도스토예프스키가 극단적인 절망 속에서 『죄와 벌』 그리고 『백치』라는 유명한 작품을 썼듯이 10대인 저자가 도전과 역경에 직면했을 때 썼던 영시를 모은 것이다. 여러 철학자들의 글을 읽으며 느꼈던 삶과 죽음, 신 그리고 고난과 약함의 본질에 대한 종교적이고 철학적인 고민이 담겨 있다. 독자들과 생명과 이 세상 속의 꿈틀거림에 대한 경험을 함께 나누길 원하는 것이 저자의 간절한 바람이다.
