The Quest 1: Adela

Adela Monette is a princess of Anastelon. She becomes 18 and is about to become a new queen of her country. But according to Anastelon's tradition, the princess needs to finish the quest in order to receive the throne. The quest is filled with many breath-taking, life-risking and perilous adventures, and Adela is worried if she can overcome all of them.

Will Adela be able to finish the quest and become the new queen?



The Quest는 신화적인 틀을 차용하면서 학교라는 현실 공간에서 이루어지는 청소년들의 우정과 질투, 사랑, 화해, 그리고 때로는 어른스러운 사회적 주제들까지 다루는 흥미로운 성장소설입니다. 특히, 등장인물들의 심리묘사나 대화는 어른 작가가 흉내 내기 어려울 만큼 그들만의 세계와 생각을 그들의 관점에서 생동감 있게 잘 그려내고 있는 점이 인상적입니다. 그러나 그 무엇보다도 주인공 찰스와 아델라의 사랑을 영어라는 표현수단을 통해 긴장감을 잃지 않으며 이렇게 멋지게 담아내는 고등학생 저자의 문학적 상상력과 표현력이 매우 유쾌합니다.

최민경 저자 최민경은 1997년 서울에서 태어나, 현재 은광여자고등학교 2학년 재학 중이다. 어렸을 때부터 영어 학습에 흥미를 가져, 많은 영문 소설을 즐겨 읽었다. 2008년 서이초등학교를 다니던 중, 1년 간 뉴질랜드 Auckland Normal Intermediate School로 어학연수를 가게 되면서, 영문 소설 쓰기에 관심을 갖게 되었다. Jacqueline Wilson의 Kiss를 읽고, 큰 영향을 받아 본격적으로 글쓰기를 시작하였는데, 처음에는 취미로 쓰면서 자기만족을 얻곤 하였지만, 점점 이야기를 채워나감에 따라 여러 사람들에게 널리 읽힐 수 있는 책을 출판하고 싶은 꿈이 싹트기 시작하였다. 극히 짧은 분량의 글로도, 읽는 이들에게 충분한 재미와 긴장감을 선사함으로써, 나중에는 'Being a Victim'을 통해 뉴질랜드학교 내에서 큰 호응을 얻기도 하였다. 귀국 후에 중학교 1학년 때부터 틈틈이 장편소설을 그려 나가기 시작하여, 장래 꿈에 대한 방황을 거치면서 소설 집필을 통해 자신의 정체성을 완성해 나갔고, 그 완성된 정체성을 'The Quest'에 녹아들게 하였다. 후속작은 대학 진학 후에 마무리할 예정이다.
