People’s increased mobility, including international students, is a clear manifestation of globalization. This book unfolds international students’ experiences of culture shock in Korea, one fast-rising international education providers. 글로벌화가 명확하게 드러나는 부분은 유학생을 비롯한 사람들의 이동성이 증가하였다는 것이다. 유학생들은 모국과 외국에서 문화적 차이를 직면하게 되면서 문화충격(culture shock)을 겪게 된다. 이 책은 국제교육시장에서 빠르게 성장하고 있는 한국에 와서 학습하고 있는 유학생들의 문화충격을 소개하고 있다. 그들이 보고 경험한 것은 한편으로 재미있기도 하고 또 다른 한편으로는 ‘이런 것도 …’ 라고 하는 간과하기 쉬운 측면도 다루고 있어 독자들의 흥미를 돋우기에 충분하다고 할 수 있다. 이를 통해 독자들은 교육과 개인의 발전을 위해 한국에 와 있은 유학생들의 삶에 대한 통찰력을 얻을 수 있으며, 나아가 두 개의 다른 문화가 만나게 될 때 가끔은 충돌이 일어날 수도 있지만 상호 이해와 존중에 대한 새로운 관점을 얻게 될 수 있도록 기대해 본다.

Cagri Erdem
Dr. Erdem received his Licence degree in Administration Economique et Sociale (AES) from Universit? de Montpellier-III, France. Erdem continued his education in California, where he obtained his BA and MA in international relations at San Francisco State University. Later on, Erdem received his Ph.D. in political science from Syracuse University of New York. Before moving to South Korea in 2015, Erdem worked at British Aerospace Engineering (BAE) Systems as a social scientist focusing on Iraq and Afghanistan (2008-09) and at Dogus University, Istanbul (2009-15). Currently, he is an assistant professor at Keimyung Adams College of Keimyung University, teaching courses on international security and Eurasian geopolitics.
