전 세계 바둑인들을 위한 최초의 영문 바둑용어 사전



알파고의 등장 이후 전 세계적으로 바둑에 대한 관심이 높아지고 있지만, 나라마다 통용되는 바둑용어가 달라 세계 포럼이나 대회 등에서 참가자들이 소통에 불편함을 겪고 있다. '바둑'이라는 명칭조차 각각 'baduk(바둑)/weiqi(?棋)/igo(?碁)/Go'로 한국 중국 일본 영미권에서 달리 불리는 상황이다.

이에 명지대학교 바둑학과 교수이자, 프로기사인 남치형 교수가 전 세계 바둑 선수 및 애호가 간의 원활한 의사소통을 위한 바둑 용어사전 《Go Terms》를 펴냈다. 각각의 바둑용어에 대한 한국어, 중국어, 일본어, 영어 명칭을 함께 정리하고, 해당 용어에 대한 정의는 영어로 집필하였다. 바둑 경기에서 사용되는 기술 용어뿐만 아니라, 바둑문화와 관련된 일반적인 용어와 숙어 및 속담을 함께 수록하여, 바둑문화 전반에 대한 이해를 돕고자 했다. 책 말미에는 각 언어권별 용어 색인이 마련되어 있어 누구나 손쉽게 활용할 수 있다.



After AlphaGo versus Lee Sedol, the interest of Go game has been enhanced. For better international communication among Go players, professor Chihyung Nam wrote a dictionary 《Go Terms》 in English. This terminology book is introducing English entries with Korean, Chinese and Japanese correspondences. For the native English speakers, those Asian baduk words satisfied their cultural curiosity, while the Asian baduk players became able to understand the speakers of other languages and communicate with them for the first time in their lives.

남치형(Chihyung Nam) 저자 남치형(Chihyung Nam)
명지대학교 바둑학과 교수. 1975년 서울에서 태어났으며, 서울대학교 영문과와 동대학원을 졸업했다. 1990년 한국기원의 프로기사로 입단, 2003년부터 명지대학교 바둑학과에서 교수직을 맡아왔다. 저서로는 《Baduk, Made Fun and Easy 1, 2, 3》(2006, 2007, 2008), 《Contemporary Go Terms》(2004), 《바둑의 역사》(2017)가 있다.

Chihyung Nam has been a professor in Department of Baduk Studies in Myongji University of Korea since 2003. She was born in Seoul in 1975 and she became a professional Go player in Hankuk Kiwon(Korean Baduk Association) in 1990. She is the author of Baduk, Made Fun and Easy 1, 2, 3 (2006, 2007, 2008), Contemporary Go Terms (2004), History of Baduk (2017).
