주인공 가온은 음식 만들기에 탁월한 재능이 있다. 돈을 벌기 위해서가 아닌 자기가 좋아하는 일이기 때문에 음식 만들기에 더 열정을 보인다.
주인공은 음식 경연대회에 참가하게 되어 우승한다. 어의는 가온의 뛰어난 실력을 보고 청나라에서 맛본 서양 음식인 카스텔라를 만들어달라고 부탁한다. 카스텔라를 만들면, 주인공 가온은 궁중을 갈 수 있는 특별한 기회를 얻게 된다. 하지만 가온은 어떤 일이든 부정한 방법으로 얻는 것을 싫어한다. 쉬운 길을 버리고 바른길을 선택한 주인공, 하지만 피나는 노력으로 조선 최초의 카스텔라를 만들게 된다.

Gaon, the protagonist, has a great talent for making food. He is more passionate about making food because it is his favorite thing to do, not because he wants to make money.
He enters a food contest and wins. When Eui sees how good Gaon is, she asks him to make castella, a western dish that she tasted in the Qing Dynasty.
