K학술확산연구센터는 ‘정체성의 정치와 공공외교의 한국학’을 핵심 주제로 사회과학으로서의 한국학을 정립해 왔으며, 매년 관련 주제로 10개의 온라인 강의를 제작해 K-MOOC를 통해 전 세계에 보급하고 있다. 이번 교과서는 해당 강의 콘텐츠를 바탕으로 구성되었다.
이 책은 한국의 정치적·문화적·사회적 정체성이 어떻게 형성되고 변화해 왔는지를 종합적으로 조망한다. 전통적인 분석 틀과 비전통적 접근 방식을 유기적으로 결합함으로써, 한국 사회의 변화를 입체적으로 이해할 수 있도록 설계되었다. 각 단원은 기존 정치 이론과 세계 속 한국의 역할을 새롭게 해석하는 관점을 균형 있게 제시한다.
