빈집

세상의 모든 집들은 이미 빈집인지 모른다. 우리는 어느 순간에 그리고 어떤 장소에서만 그 집에 기거한다. 집은 그렇기에 우리에게는 너무도 친숙하지만 또한 너무 낯선 곳이기도 하다. 누군가 항상 살고 있지만 언젠가는 비워지고 마는 우리들의 빈집은 다름 아닌 실존의 가장 정직한 모습이다.
자물쇠가 채워진 빈집의 담 밖에는 나팔꽃이 처연하게 피어있다. 시인은 굳이 그것을 꿈이라고 말해준다. 그래서 꿈을 꾸는 시인은 시를 쓰는 것이며, 우연히 그 빈집을 지나는 우리들은 시를 읽는 것이다. 한 번 만이라도 그런 빈집 앞에 걸음을 멈추지 않는 사람은 얼마나 궁핍한 삶을 사는 것인가?
All the houses in this world may already be empty. We reside in them only at certain moments, in certain places. A house is thus both deeply familiar and profoundly alien. Though someone always lives in it, it will one day be emptied. Our empty houses are nothing less than the most honest reflection of existence. Beyond the locked gate of the empty house, morning glories bloom poignantly. The poet calls them a dream. To dream is to write poetry, and for those of us passing by that empty house, it is to read poetry. How impoverished is the life of someone who never pauses, even once, before such an empty house?
