이문주 (B. 1972) 작가는 서울대학교 서양학과 및 同대학원을 졸업하고, 크랜브룩 아카데이 오브 아트를 졸업했다. 이길이구 갤러리에서 선보인 〈댄스〉 전시의 주요 작품은 이문주 작가의 공간 탐구에 이어 그 현장을 살아가는 사람들에 대한 관찰에 집중하고 있다. 우연히 목격한 노인들의 ‘건강백세교실’ 프로그램에 참가하여 공원에서 춤을 추는 노인의 모습에서 작가는 노인의 인생과 삶에 대한 사유를 끌어내 우리들의 삶의 아름다움을 고찰한다. 작가는 2005년 금호미술관, 대안공간 풀 등에서 개인전을 가지며 본격적으로 국내미술계에서 활동을 시작하였고, 창동레시던시, 베를린 쿤스틀러하우스베타니엔 스튜디오 프로그램, 난지스튜디오 등에 입주작가로 참여한 바 있다. 1990년대 중반부터 서울, 보스턴, 디트로이트, 베를린 등의 도시들을 이동하며 그 도시에서 목격한 도시재개발 등의 그 현장 연구를 특유의 회화적 기법으로 재구성해오며, 예술의 사회적 역할에 대한 모색을 꾸준히 하고 있다.
