신성이 사라진 우리 시대는 어둠이 짙게 작동하는 위기에 직면해 있다. 시대의 구원을 열망하는 절대적 신성 뿐만 아니라, 공동체적 연민과 희망의 빛이 사라졌기 때문이다. 정치도 빛을 잃었고, 희망 도, 분노도, 시도 광채를 잃어버린 안타까운 현실 앞에 우리의 슬픔 은 더욱 무겁게 느껴진다. 이러한 빛이 희미해진 우리 세상과, 시의 안과 밖에 희망의 작은 빛을 노래하고자는 하는 김윤환의 시집 〈바 닥에 두고온 얼굴〉은 더욱 낮은 존재의 소망과 희망의 신성을 지니고 있어 소중하다. 그의 신성은 높은 천상의 하늘이 아니라 지하도 의 하늘이며, 절대적 신성이 아니라, 낮은 무릎 아래 얼굴을 대는 신 성을 품고 있기 때문이다. 이는 소외와 궁핍한 서사들의 많은 시들이 더욱 빛의 연대를 은혜롭게 소망하고 있는 증언들로 믿음의 빛을 함 께 나누고 있기에 진실하다. 광활한 바다 위에서 바다가 바다가 아니 라는 생명의 기쁨과 영광을 반어적으로 부정하는 그의 믿음에는 만 유의 생명을 '홍화'의 빛으로 세상을 물들게 하는 무지개가 일어서는 신성을 바라보는 게 나만의 은혜일까.

그의 시 세계에서 신앙은 문학을 억압하지 않고, 문학 역시 신앙을 훼손하지 않는다. 두 개의 언어와 두 개의 믿음은 서로를 침범하거나 지우는 대신, 긴밀히 교차하고 공명하며 서로의 효과를 증폭시킨다. 시인이자 성직자로서 그는 인간적 결핍을 인정하고 보완하며 하나의 진실을 향해 균형 있게 나아간다. 그리고 그 진실의 포괄적인 이름을 나는 '사랑'이라 부르고 싶다. 특히 소외된 타자를 향한 그의 시선은 신앙적 사랑과 소명의식 안에서 마주하기에, 추상적 관념이나 시혜적 태도에 머물지 않고 생생하게 살아 숨 쉬는 윤리로 체현된다. 그리하여 그의 시를 읽는 일은 신의 언어와 시의 언어가 서로를 배교(背敎)하지 않고 어떻게 공존할 수 있는지, 어둠 속에서 어떻게 아름답게 양립하며 빛을 발하는지 목격하는 귀한 사건이 된다.

김윤환 1963년 경북 안동에서 태어났다. 1989년 《실천문학》에 시를 발표하며 작품 활동을 시작했으며, 시집 『그릇에 대한 기억』 『까띠뿌난에서 만난 예수』 『이름의 풍장』 『내가 누군가를 지우는 동안』, 논저 『박목월 시에 나타난 모성 하나님』 『한국 현대시의 종교적 상상력』 등을 펴냈다.
